Hey there, fellow creative minds!
There are times when it seems as if our brains are on a creative lockdown. No matter how hard you try, you cannot come up with that brilliant idea you know is hiding somewhere in the depths of your mind.
Everyone hits a creative block now and then. Our brains do not feel up to anything and we cannot get it to work.
If you are currently in that season, then I bring you great news, drum rolls!!!! T
Do you know that there are fun and effective exercises that can help kickstart your creativity and get you up and bubbling with ideas?
Let me share some of the very effective creative thinking exercises that have worked wonders for me—and it might do the same for you!
- Change Your Environment
Sometimes, a change of scenery is all it takes to spark creativity. If you are stuck, try working in a different location—a new spot, a park, or even a different room in your house.
I remember one time when I was struggling to come up with a new write-up. I decided to take my laptop to a nearby park. The fresh air and new surroundings helped me see things from a different perspective, and I ended up with a write-up that I would not have come up with otherwise.
- Daily Journaling
Keep a journal where you jot down your thoughts, ideas, and observations. Do not worry about structure or grammar, write freely. I have been keeping a journal for years, and it is amazing how many ideas come to me just by writing without any goal. Sometimes, my best ideas come from random thoughts that I initially dismissed.
- Collaborate and Brainstorm
Two heads they say are better than one. Collaborating with others can bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the table. Set up a brainstorming session with friends or colleagues and let ideas flow freely.
- Do Something Fun or Should I say Distract Yourself
Sometimes, doing things outside of the creative activity you intend to do can help. For example, if you cannot seem to get ideas for a writing or designing project, do something else that is so much fun. For me, when I cannot seem to get ideas for a project, I dance.
Dancing helps me release the tension. You can equally listen to music or do anything you consider fun.
- Sleep/ Rest
Sometimes, choosing to rest can also help spur new ideas. So, if you are experiencing a creative block, maybe what you need is some rest.
